Microsoft Word 2007
FAQ

MS Office Word 2007 has made changes to the toolbar, in which you no longer have a drop down menu.  At Step into My Office we have devised a FAQ section to help solve some of your user issues.

How do you stop word from correcting what you type?

This is an easy feature to change if you know where to look.  The first thing you need to do is find the auto correct feature.  This used to be under tools in the 2003 version, but to make it easier on you the 2007 version is a little different.  Under the Microsoft menu symbol you need to select word options.  Then select proofing.  The first option is setting auto correct feature.

How do you stop the automatic URL formatting?

Follow the steps above for auto correction.  Under the auto correction settings you can unselect internet and network paths with hyperlink.  This is in the Replace as you type section.

How can I get the rulers to show up on my document?

The ruler option in MS Office Word 2007 has changed a bit.  On the right side of your Microsoft document, just above the vertical slide bar you have a small icon.  When you place your mouse over that area it will say hide or show ruler.  You just have to click on this area in order to get the ruler to display.  The icon looks a little like an envelope with a top arrow in the upper left and an arrow in the upper right.

How can I change my toolbar?

Your toolbar first of all is the area at the top offering you ways to modify the document.  You can customize the toolbar to have more or less buttons.  When you right click on an area it will display a drop down menu.  This menu will allow you to change the toolbar options and customize it to fit your needs.  You can also add to the toolbar or show the quick access ribbons below.

Where is the quick print button?

When you first download the MS Office Word 2007 you will notice buttons such as a new document, print, undo, redo, and save are all missing from the toolbar.  You can still access these buttons through the menu symbol, but if you don’t want to do this you can customize the quick access icons.  There is a little arrow next to the Microsoft symbol, which produces the quick access bar.  You drop that arrow down and select the options you would like to see for access.  One of these buttons will be quick print. You can also place print preview in the toolbar for easy access.

There are a lot more save as options; which is right for me?

When you want to save your work you still have the save or save as button.  Under save as you have the option of choosing what format you want.  It is best to stick with the 97- 2003 format because that allows others using an earlier version to access your documents.
