Microsoft Excel is the reigning spreadsheet software on the market for almost every computer.  They started designing the software in the late 80’s along with the Word Program.  Excel is seen as the best on the market due to its ease of use, capabilities, and that no other software has been able to keep up with it.

Microsoft Works also has spreadsheet capabilities; however Works is still behind in their updates for spreadsheet use.  You will find the newer version of Microsoft Works looks like earlier versions of Excel.  Of course this is partly because Works is part of Microsoft, but Microsoft Works has always been different in that it offers templates and menus.  You have to open Works and then find the area the spreadsheet is kept.

AppleWorks is another style after Excel for the Mac computers.  It will translate files from Excel onto the Mac for reading and adjustment.  AppleWorks is like the Microsoft Office Suite in that it has everything including the spreadsheet.  Many Mac users prefer the AppleWorks, but the differences are slight for the competition.  The range in prices for all programmes mentioned is within a couple of pounds of each other.
