Microsoft Project 2007
FAQ

Understanding the Microsoft Office Project programme is relatively easy once you start to explore how the programme works.  There will be cases in which you have questions.  So we searched to bring you some of the more important FAQ about the Microsoft Project software.
The first thing you should know is how to set up the Project before you enter any project information.  You don’t want to start before everything is set.  So there are four things in settings that you need to do.  They are below.

  1. Under tools in the ribbon you will need to select options for the Calendar tab.  In fact with the new version you just have to select the calendar tab.  Then you can set the day that the project will begin.  In this area you need to select for working time and time where there is no work going on.  This will help the Project know the amount of hours in the week you will work and the amount of days you expect the project to take.  The settings are important especially for the 1 day duration tasks.  You need to know the amount of work, but more than that the cost of the work.
  2. Also in the same area you need to ‘Change working time’.  This selection will allow you to set the hours in a day for the Project calendar.  For example, if you are only working 7.5 hours you may need to adjust the settings so that it will not round up to 8 hours.    Once you are done working in the calendar you need to select new.
  3. Once you select new the project calendar will begin.  In this case you need to select project information to make sure that everything is correct and that the assignments have been saved.  The calendar may offer a default, so you want to make sure you have everything set to start.
  4. The last step is optional, but very helpful.  In the format selection you can select ‘timescale’ then click on nonworking time.  This will help make sure that you have the proper settings for this as well.

The next thing of importance is understanding per-use cost for a work resource.  A lot of individuals have a question about how to get this started to make sure that their project is set up correctly.

You will need to select view.  Then click on resource sheet.  After you select the resource sheet you will want to select ‘table’ then entry.  In the cost/use field you need to type a cost value then tab.  You can also set more than one per-use cost for each resource if you need to.  Just make sure that you have the effective date in the resource information to help the programme understand what you are asking.

If you still have questions there is a help guide attached to the MS Project software.  You can also see our guide to gather more information on how the programme works.
